I’m continually blown away by Lee Bontecou (who I think should get more props than she does). Don’t miss her show of recent works at FreedmanArt on the Upper East Side through February 11. Seen here: her 1959 wall sculpture, Untitled. (Via Wikipedia.)
Abraham McNally, Untitled, 2009. Going on view at Curious Matter, in Jersey City, this Saturday. (Via ArtCat.)
“I can’t stand art actually. I’ve never, ever liked art, ever. I never took it in school.” — David Hammons.
Shown here: Untitled, 1989. From David Hammons in his own words, in hEyOka Magazine.
Saw the Mexico: Expected/Unexpected show at the MCASD in La Jolla, Calif. today, which is chock full of interesting pieces by Francis Alÿs. Above, Untitled (Sitting donkey, Trento), 2004, by Maurizio Cattelan. (Courtesy of the artist and Fundacion CIAC: Colección Isabel y Agustín Coppel, photo by Pablo Mason.)
This piece by Dan Flavin at Lehmann Maupin is super trippy. From a distance, it looks green, but get in close and it turns whitish-yellow — and then stays that way even if you step back.
